Tennessee Birdwalk

Don’t ask me what genetically foretold chemical imbalance made me today recall listening to Tennessee Birdwalk in 1970, but there’s no denying that the event occurred and I have accepted that.

I just bought it on I-Tunes. Does that make me a bad person ;-)

Tennessee Birdwalk was a “novelty” hit by Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan and it was ubiquitous on the radio airwaves for a spell. It was HUGE down south where I grew up, but I think it probably sold well all over the country as well? (most popular music stations were AM stations then btw, this was just a few years before album oriented rock started filling up the FM band) - this song just teeters in a very sort of odd area of Americana - it’s just weird, like muffler men or tricky trays or maybe people you might see in the Reno, NV airport (I’ve been there).

… and if you have ever met me, you know very well I probably qualify for some sort of cultural splinter genre of my own ;-)

Also, there’s something you gotta respect about a husband - wife team making music together for so long (Jack and Misty were a team well before Birdwalk was eleased in 1970 and if their website is any indication, they are still together) - so, albeit perhaps a bit lame, I guess this post is my Valentine’s Day contribution for the week, too!

Here’s a YouTube video, apparently uploaded by Jack and Misty of Tennessee Birdwalk being performed “on TV, with Ralph Emery and Tanya Tucker…” (Pop Goes the Country(?)

If you wanna see BIZZAARRE check out this knock off of Birdwalk performed on the Lawrence Welk Show. Why do I half remember watching this when it originally aired?
