A lot of times when I get location research requests or location scouting requests for beach / water front properties, cabins - requests that any vacation type property might be suited for… I’ll check vacation rental websites such as Great Rentals or Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO); it’s a bit different having a film or photo crew come in and use the property as a film or photo location than it is to rent the place to a family on vacation or per a similar vacation situation - but not SO different ;-) …my mileage has varied; some people are interested, some aren’t; really depends on the property owner and the specific circumstance at the time.

Vacation rental listings could also be useful finding lodging for a film or photo crew depending on the area if the production is to take place outside a major metro area - again, a lot depends on the specific circumstances of a given situation.

    Mardi Gras USA

As we all know, Mardi Gras is a big annual event in New Orleans and in fact along most of the Gulf (of Mexico) Coast; this year Fat Tuesday (this is what the French phrase “mardi gras” translates to in English…) was yesterday, Tuesday February 5th, 2008.

My Mom’s side of my family hails from the Mississippi / Alabama Gulf Coast areas and New Orleans. Someday I’ll post photos of the big ole house my grandmother grew up in in the French Quarter of New Orleans. One of my fondest family memories is going to visit my Grandmother at her home in Gulfport, MS and the two us going to about a half dozen local Mardi Gras parades in little towns along the coast over a period of several days during Mardi Gras one year and meeting up with other relatives in Mobile (AL) for Fat Tuesday.

Yo, they don’t know from Mardi Gras here in New Jersey ;-)

In November / December 2007, I travelled to the Lake Mead, NV area to meet with, along with the rest of Team Q-spheres USA, Jo VanHove and Frans VanDenBemd for an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with and use the Q-spheres digital capture system. During the course of the trip, not only did the American contingent of Team Q-spheres come away with a thorough training in Q-spheres technology and practices, the results of the actual Q-spheres sessions have provided us all with the valuable assets of beautiful lightspheres and backgrounds of the Nevada desert.

City Paper | Naked City | On Location | Meet the folks who find Philly spots for Hollywood shoots. | September 12-18, 2002 | by Mary F. Patel

“What do J-Lo, Ben Affleck and Michael Bolton have in common? No, the answer has nothing to do with hairstyles or ego sizes. All of these celebs have worked, or are currently working, on films (or videos) in Philly. Our town’s reputation as a good and inexpensive place to make movies has only been enhanced by the recent hype from the Kevin Smith film Jersey Girl, now shooting with Lopez, Affleck and other stars in various locations in the city. But after Smith, who hails from New Jersey, opted to shoot in Philly, it was time for our local location scouts to enter the scene to help film crews make the most of what the city has to offer.”
