VR Panorama: Van Slyke Mansion Ruins, NJ
Another VR panorama test, this time using a Leica D-Lux 3 / normal lens. The tripod used was only semi-nodal, a normal lens was used and only one set of exposures was made so a fully immersive, 360 / 180 HDRi VR wasnt really in the cards. But we *do* have the lovely Mary brightening an otherwise arguably dreary environment! ![]()

VR Panorama Created From Flip HD Video
VR panorama of Castle Point Ruins made from an image sequence from my Flip UltraHD. The tripod used was only semi-nodal and the Flip’s exposure isn’t really controllable so a fully immersive, 360 / 180 HDRi VR wasnt really in the cards. But I’m pretty happy starting out
…and shooting with a Flip LOL!

Reel Jersey Film Festival: WeirdNJ Party / Midnight Movie: The Blood Shed
Reel Jersey Film Festival: WeirdNJ Party / Midnight Movie: The Blood Shed
I got to the party at Williams Center in Rutherford, NJ around 10:30 pm; fortunately, there was still plenty of “Joisey-cuisine” – icy cold Busch beer and White Castle burgers left to drink and eat!
While The Coffin Daggers got ready for their set, the screen in the grand old Rivoli Theater played scenes from a very diverse variety of b-movie horror and soft-core 60′s nudie flicks (just like a midnite movie
At around 11:15pm The Coffin Daggers played an excellent set of hard-driving and loud surf rock instrumentals, to a horror muxvid loop playing above them, after which the overweight drag couple in matching Bo-Peep-hybrid outfits (I didn’t see any shepherd’s canes
…or sheep, for that matter, but maybe that’s a good thing!
… or maybe they were sposed to be the twins from The Shining? …dunno… ) joined Mark and Mark from WeirdNJ onstage for the raffle drawing. I didn’t win – oh well…
The cast from The Blood Shed took the stage, Mark introduced the film and we were all off and running! (to the comfort of ulphostered theater lounge seats in the Rivoli, that is…)
The Blood Shed is classic Alan Rowe Kelly fare falling somewhere btn the b-movie flicks, John Waters, John Carpenter and Hammer Films (all of who I am sure must be influences for Alan); toss in Alan’s own Jersey je nais se qua…
Alan, of course, plays one of the lead characters, the burly “child”, Beeftina Bullion as well as having directed and produced. The whole thing’s just a mad, gory hoot!
I didn’t get a chance to speak with Alan, tho I hope to sometime this weekend at the festival. I did have the wonderful opportunity to meet Alan several years ago at the premiere of I’ll Bury You Tomorrow at the Darress Theater in Boonton, NJ.

Local filmmaker will show work at festival – Colts Neck News Transcript
“I just love shooting films in New Jersey. I always try to film here since you have so much control over the location. In New York you have to deal with hassles like parking and unwanted noise. I’ve used Point Pleasant, Brick, and even George Washington’s old house in Morristown as locations for filming,” Valenti said.

New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission Budget Followup
Following a hard fought battle fending off the threat of elimination via loss of its state funding, the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJFilm) manages to live on, operating, going forward, on a reduced budget of $395,000 per year, as reported by the Star Ledger Online:

New Jersey Film Office Needs Our Help

Passaic County Film Commission
I recently had the opportunity and pleasure recently to work with our own Passaic County Film Commission, which is an economic development arm of the Passaic County, NJ county government.
Passaic County, NJ (I live in Clifton, NJ, which is in Passaic County) is a very viable resource for location scouts, location managers and producers of film, video and photo media, given its proximity to New York City (most, if not all of the county is in the NYC film zone), population density and subsequently, diversity of potential locations and other resources of likely value to production.
The Passaic County Film Commission also sponsors the Passaic County Film Festival.
The film office is headed up by Deborah Hoffman, Director of Economic Development for the county. Deborah, if by no other virtue than her job, knows LOTS of people around the county and is well connected in the local business community. What this translates to is Deborah is the initial point person for “making things happen” if there is interest in making use of production and location resources in Passaic County. Deborah’s contact info can be found on the Passaic County website.
