I Am Archived

Human Archives Organization …sort of a “who’s who”…of everybody (…at least anyone who has an “archivist” or wants to do it them self…).

Here’s my HumanArchive page.

Here is what this website looked like at various times in the past - for some reason, there are no archives for 2007 but don’t know why?

Here is what Microsoft.com looked liked on October 20, 1996.

Shoot Online Publicity Wire

Shoot Online has recently announced its Publicity Wire Service.

“The SHOOT Publicity Wire offers PR, marketing professionals, and entrepreneurs a powerful tool to communicate to a hard-to-reach vertical market comprised of news agencies, search engines, journalists, industry publications, customers, prospects, and influential industry decision-makers in the advertising, broadband, filmmaking, and television production and postproduction industries.”

The $49.95 (introductory rate thru April 30th, 2008) price per release seems very reasonable.

This new service seems similar to PRWeb (which I have used) and other online press release services, however, an advantage for production industry related news could be Shoot’s close affiliation with the production industry itself.

The Rose Bowl is For Rent

Er, well, I dont know about availability on New Year’s Day ;-)

BUT…

According to the Filming at the Rose Bowl Stadium web page on the Rose Bowl website:

“Attention Location Scouts! The Rose Bowl Stadium is where the stars come out…”

COME SHOOT WITH US! WE’RE FILMING FRIENDLY!

“Off Site crew parking is also available for film production groups that are filming in the Pasadena area.”

(appears as if you can use the stadium for holding / parking as well) Check it out

Yankee Stadium isnt quite as clear about its availability for film shoots, nor is Giants Stadium. (I have shot at what is currently named Izod Center, but it was years ago)

Sad News

via Dennis Connors and Tina Gehrig:
John McCormack, 57, a partner of ProSet (West Paterson, NJ) has passed away.

John, (as well as his partners and the ProSet brand ) have been icons in the north New Jersey professional photography community for some years and John will be missed dearly by many people.

Me on del.icio.us

I moved my links off this site to point to my links on del.icio.us | del.icio.us/rrhobbs after several years of trying ways to keep up with the the links I use regularly, to maintain them using various scripts and built in features of Wordpress (my site-building tool of choice), that del.icio.us proved to be the most efficient means.

If you are a location scout or need location scouting resources, you may just find some pearls in my links :-) in addition to links I bookmark doing work on my websites. I spend more time that might be healthy on the internet doing research (plus I like it- a guilty pleasure of owning a computer…) and have accumulated somewhere in the nabe of 3,000 links so far- which might make navigating my (or anybody’s) links a formidable task if not for the fact that the links are tagged with regard to keyword or subject… and the pile of links grows daily.

Redrafting of NYC MOFTB Rules

Lots of changes afoot at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting (MOFTB), begun this past year and likely to continue well into 2008 that involve a rewrite of many rules that include potential easing of some film permit requirements and other changes.

Lots of news about this currently ongoing process can be found elsewhere on the web, including:

MOFTB Website:

  1. August 3, 2007 - Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) Commissioner Katherine Oliver today announced that MOFTB will redraft proposed Charter-mandated rules for issuing permits to film or photograph on public property. The revision of the rules will take into account feedback MOFTB has received over the past two months. Public comment, which is scheduled to end today, will be re-opened for another 30-day period after the redrafted rules are published.”
  2. October 29th, 2007 - Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) Commissioner Katherine Oliver today announced the release of a newly drafted permit rule proposal, which is available online and published in the City Record. Under the proposed rules, which are designed to codify procedures that have existed in practice since the office was established in 1966, a permit would be required for a shoot if production equipment or vehicles create an obstruction, but not for productions that only use hand-held cameras or tripods that don’t cause an obstruction. The publication of the new rules, which are subject to public comment, follows the MOFTB’s decision to redraft rules following an initial publication and comment period that was extended to August 3, 2007. A copy of the proposed rule and an accompanying executive summary and Q&A document explaining it are available on the MOFTB website at www.nyc.gov/film.”

    Lightbox-NY

Mark McKennon and I recently had the opportunity to tour Lightbox-NY, a 10,000 sf rental studio / industrial location in the Bronx, on Barretto Street, in the Hunts Point area, in the building complex I have always known the Bronx Apparel Center.

Lightbox-NY opened this past year and is owned and operated by local NYC location scouting legends David Appleson and Carl Bellavia.

The space is unique in that it fills (at least a part of…) a current shortage of shoot-ready industrial aesthetic film locations in the New York City area. The space features a “raw” industrial interior with large, factory-typical windows and skylights as well as an accessible rooftop which includes a unique graphic element of the skylight’s shapes and the Bronx as a cityscape backdrop. Additionally, Lightbox-NY provides 10,000 sf more of production-wired raw studio space with potential for use as a propped, built-set sound stage for the local film production market.

Best wishes and good luck to David and Carl on their venture and hopes we might have an opportunity to shoot at their space sometime soon! -RH
